| Opis | Pięć płyt nieco zapomnianej już formacji, stworzonej pod koniec lat 60. w Niemczech przez angielskiego muzyka Lesa Humphriesa (naprawdę Johna Lesleya Humphreysa). Zespół działał z paroma przerwami do 1993 roku, na krótko reaktywował się też w XXI wieku w różnych składach, ale już bez Lesa, który zmarł w 2007 roku. Warto zaznaczyć, że w Les Humphries Singers przez wiele lat śpiewał John Lawton, który później zasilił jako wokalista słynną formację Uriah Heep. Z kolei Liz Mitchell śpiewała z mistrzami disco, Boney M. Les Humphries Singers, zespół składający się z bardzo uzdolnionych wokalnie, a także niezwykle kolorowo odzianych, pań i panów o różnej narodowości i rasie, proponował w dużej mierze cudze kompozycje z kręgu bluesa, gospel (te piosenki cieszyły się największą popularnością), psychodelii, a nieco później także popu i disco. Coverowali między innymi Neila Diamonda i Leonarda Cohena. Grupa nie stroniła też przed autorskimi nagraniami. Największa popularność formacji przypadła na pierwszą połowę lat 70. Wtedy właśnie ukazały się (najpierw w Niemczech) znajdujące się w pudełku płyty "We'll Fly You To The Promiseland", "We Are Going Down Jordan", "Old Man Moses" (wszystkie z 1971 roku), "Mexico" i "Mama Loo" (dwie ostatnie z 1972 roku). Na wszystkich pięciu albumach mamy wspaniałe śpiewy, doskonałe chórki, które dają wrażenie jakby słuchacz przebywał na koncercie. Wyczuwalna jest w interpretacjach piosenek radosna, optymistyczna nuta wiążąca zespół z epoką hipisowską. Wokalną maestrię Les Humphries Singers dostrzegli inni artyści, którzy korzystali z ich usług. |
