Fantazja liryczna w dwóch częściach. Jedna z najpiękniejszych opowieści operowych w historii. Baśniowy klimat libretta Colette, w połączeniu z cudowną muzyką mistrza orkiestracji jakim był Ravel, roztacza przed wyobraźnią słuchacza plastyczną, sugestywną wizję. Niesforne dziecko staje oko w oko z magicznie ożywionymi przedmiotami ze swojego otoczenia, które wcześniej traktował bez szacunku. To spotkanie nie przebiega jednak po myśli niegrzecznego malca. Treść opery ma magiczny charakter, a jednocześnie zawiera w sobie wiele walorów edukacyjnych. Piękno muzyki francuskiego kompozytora sprawia, że jest to kompozycja idealna zarówno dla najmłodszych, jak i dla dorosłych, może także z powodzeniem służyć chwilom spędzanym wspólnie w otoczeniu muzyki i poezji. Powstaniu partytury towarzyszyły liczne perypetie. Początkowo tekst Colette został wysłany do Ravela w 1916 roku, kiedy w czasie wojny kompozytor służył na froncie. Przesyłka zaginęła i twórca odebrał libretto dopiero w 1917 roku, ale pracę nad utworem rozpoczął dopiero trzy lata później w 1920 roku. Ukończone 4 lata później dzieło, doczekało się premiery i w 1925 roku wystawiono Dziecko i Czary w Monte Carlo z choreografią legendarnego George'a Balanchine'a. Nagranie zawiera także Pavanę dla zmarłej Infantki oraz Valses nobles et sentimentales Maurice'a Ravel'a w wykonaniu Royal Philharmonic Orchestra pod batutą Adre Previna. |
